Born in Bremerhaven, West Germany, to an American Navy father posted abroad, Fr Montgomery was raised in the Greater Pittsburgh area where he was baptized (Calvary Church, Pittsburgh), educated (St. Edmund’s Academy), and confirmed (St. Thomas’, Oakmont). He then continued his education at St. Andrew’s School in Delaware and the University of St Andrews, Scotland, finishing a degree in History and Classics at the University of Pittsburgh. Having worked as a Youth Director at Calvary Church, Pittsburgh and Sacristan/Counsellor at Calvary Camp, Ohio, and a Dormitory Master, History Teacher, and Rowing Coach at Baylor School in Chattanooga, he became a postulant for Holy Orders from the Diocese of East Tennessee and matriculated at the General Theological Seminary. During seminary, he served as an intern at the Church of the Ascension, Lower Fifth Avenue and Christ Hospital, Jersey City. After ordination to the Diaconate, he served as Curate at St. George’s-by-the-River, Rumson, New Jersey and then as Canon Pastor of the American Cathedral in Paris. Since then he has served many churches and institutions in various capacities including: Rector of All Saints’, Palo Alto, California, Investment Services Manager of the Episcopal Church Foundation at the Episcopal Church Center (NYC), Assisting Priest at St Mary the Virgin, Times Square, Manger of the Episcopalian Program of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Assistant priest at S. Clement’s, Philadelphia.
Father is pleased to be back home — in Pennsylvania — where he spent the formative years of his early life and where his father’s family has been (Western) and mother’s (Eastern) since the days of the Colony of New Sweden. His multiple great grandfather, Anthony Wayne Montgomery is undoubtedly smiling. He has been with us serving as our Parish priest since May of 2015.
He is married to the former Diane Eliopoulou who, when she is not in Rosemont (and even when she is through the mercies of telecommutation) works as the Executive Director of the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York. They have four grown (or almost grown) children whom you will see from time to time (Charlie, Anna, Robin, and Hermione) who all live, work, or study in the Greater New York area. Resident in the Rectory is their guard beagle, Chester, and his pet cat, Christopher — or it might well be the other way ’round.
Availability: The life of an Anglo Catholic priest in a small (but growing!) parish is pretty full of liturgies, parish administration, and pastoral matters — as well as leaks in the walls, falling leaves…..you get the picture. He WANTS to meet with people however! He generally likes to make appointments on Thursdays and his day off is generally Tuesday though is always available for pastoral emergencies. The best way to reach him is by email. Please email him to set up a time to meet or to talk. In a matter of pastoral urgency (no solicitation or cold calls please or he will really be steamed and you will NOT get the business) please ring the Rectory: 610-525-7529. If he is not there it rolls over to his cell phone.
